Jose Vallejo
Assistant Director for Collegiate Recovery
My name is Jose Vallejo, and I am a proud Waco Native. My journey in the throes of addiction began early with both parents struggling with alcohol and substance abuse and other life controlling behaviors. This led me down my own journey of substance abuse which wreaked havoc on my life, starting at age 13. The journey into addiction was tumultuous, marked by moments of despair, broken relationships, and shattered dreams. In 2009, I made the decision to seek help and embark of the journey of recovery.
In my journey of recovery, I found a renewed purpose and passion to help others facing similar situations as myself. Fueled by personal experience, I embarked on a journey of education and earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Tarleton State University and my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Each step of my education journey was fueled by the desire to make a difference in the lives of individuals battling alcohol or substance abuse disorder.
In my journey, I have worked with a variety of clients ranging from 13 to 65. I have experience both faith-based residential and outpatient settings treating alcohol and substance use disorders in Waco, TX. As a Licensed Maters Social Worker, I have counseled both individuals and families, offering hope in times of despair. I became an advocate for mental health and addiction awareness, fighting against stigma and misconceptions surrounding these issues. I have implemented programs, facilitated support groups, and collaborated with organizations to create safe spaces for healing.
I am a husband to my wife Jessica, and a father to 4 wonderful kids. I enjoy reading and working out and spending time with my family during my free time.
