Jose Vallejo
Assistant Director for Collegiate Recovery
My name is Jose Vallejo, and I am a proud Waco native. My journey into addiction began early, as both of my parents struggled with alcohol, substance abuse, and other life-controlling behaviors. This environment led me to begin my own battle with substance abuse at the age of 13, which took a heavy toll on my life, relationships, and dreams. However, in 2009, I made the life-changing decision to seek help and start my recovery journey.
In recovery, I found not only healing but also a renewed sense of purpose: to help others facing the same struggles. Driven by my personal experiences, I pursued education to equip myself with the tools to make a meaningful difference. I earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Tarleton State University and later a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Every step of my education was motivated by a deep desire to support those battling alcohol and substance use disorders.
As a Licensed Master Social Worker, I’ve had the privilege of working with clients from ages 13 to 65 in both faith-based residential and outpatient settings, specifically in Waco, TX. I’ve counseled individuals and families, offering hope and guidance through the most challenging times. I am also an advocate for mental health and addiction awareness, striving to break down the stigma and misconceptions surrounding these issues. I’ve implemented recovery programs, facilitated support groups, and collaborated with organizations to create safe, healing spaces for those in need.
Today, I am blessed to share life with my wife, Jessica, and our four wonderful children. In my free time, I enjoy reading, working out, coaching and spending quality time with my family.
